Thread: Coating a spring

  1. #1

    Default Coating a spring

Here's one for you all... I want to coat a motorcycle kickstand and the spring. I will make up a jig to expand the spring slightly for coating. Has anyone else tried this, and if so, how has it held up?

Springs hold up great, I do alot of them. Try this: Take the wire that you hang your parts on, after you cure, and bend it, twist it, double it over. The coating doesn't peel, chip or crack. Good thing to show customers too!

I did my motorcycle kick stand, and did it without expanding the spring. No one really benns down that far to look at it anyways.

What about bigger springs like those on a car (coil springs). Wo9uld the spring action damage the coating...all that flexing We have turned down several jobs of PC'ing coil springs because we belived the spring action (flewxing) would eventually make the PC flake off!

I wonder if the heat would damage a coil spring on your car.

I would be more worried about the flexing making the PC flake and break. The heat factor shouldn't be a problem. We have PC'd auto parts that are near the exhaust headers with no problems yet.
I would still like to hear from someone that has PC'd coil springs!

Leafs too huh? That's interesting. With all the shackles and bolts on leaf springs, I wouldn't expect them to stay nice for long.........off to the junkyard in the morning for more parts!

You have to dismantel the leaf springs. Then powder the parts then place in new pads between the leafs and all is well ..
I di dthe ones on my Jeep 2 years ago and they still look new..
