Default lollypop red q

ok my lollypop red turned orange when i applied super high gloss clear to it. It was applied to an engine pulley.
All products are caswell:
lollypop red
super chrome
super high gloss clear

my spray schedual is this:
shot super chrome at room temp, cured at 435 til flow out (approx. 5 min) then down to 400 for 10 min.
-turned out fine other than bumps which i guess are outgass pockets

shot lollypop red on part at 150 degrees, cured at 435 til flow out 9approx. 5 min)and then turned down to 400 for 10
- looked great except for the few sags at the lowest point

shot the super clear on part at 150 degrees , cured at 400 til flow out then down to 392 for 15 min.

-part turned orange and needed to be stripped and redone.

Any help please.

Where are you getting these times and temps?
395 for 15 mins once part reach's 395 degrees.
Candy colors do not need to be cleared coated.. Waste of powder..

I agree with Jim - you don't need, and shouldn't, clear over candies. Candies are a colored clear coat.

So my scheduel should be strip part with aircraft stripper, clean with brake clean, sandblast, clean with brake clean, prebake, claean with brake cleaner, spray chrome, cure at 395 for 15 min once part reaches 395, then let cool to 150, spray lollypop red, cure at 395 for 15 once part reaches 395. Is this correct? If not what should the scheduel be? Should i let the part fully cure for the chrome base? That is what the caswell directions said. Do i need a prebake? I know it is a cast steel body with a interferance fit snout out of tool hardened and machined 1018. I have a tablet that i split into two colums and i make a planned spray scheduel on one side with notes, and then an actual spray scheduel used and results. So any help on these candies would really help me for the planned sprays. Also am I taking the cure temps from the parts or the ambient temp? I was taking the the temp with a IR therm. stuck in the middle away from the elements of the oven.

Prep how ever you like. But here are my steps..
1. Sand Blast parts to remove old coating.
2. Wipe done with acetone. Do not touch with bare hands from this point on.
3. If used parts you may want to outgas at 450 degrees for 30 mins ( time starts once part reach's 450 degrees)
4. If Out gassed let part reach 150 degrees, if New part and no out gassing go a head and shoot powder at room temp.
5. Place part in cool oven set temp to 392 degrees for Extreme Chrome. Once part rreach's 392 degrees start timer for 15 mins.
6 Remove from oven let part cool to room temp.
7. Rewarm part to 150-170 degrees.
8. Shoot candy color onto part ( Remember DO NOT TOUCH PART WITH BARE HANDS).
9. Cure part at 400 degrees for 10 mins. The time starts once the part reach's 400 degrees.
10. Let cool in oven by cracking door open.
11. Enjoy new candy color and ship to client...

Remember all times start once the part reach's Cure temp, this is why you need a Lazer temp guage.
I have shot just about ever candy color out there and these are my steps.. Work ever time...

ok i did a bracket and the bracket looks great other than there are runs. I thought powdercoat wouldn't run I don't understand the amount of powder to put on to keep from getting sags. It seems that at the lowest point I am getting sags. I also started to do that pulley and it is just kicking my butt. Now I sprayed the chrome base and it must not have been cleaned enough so the base was all kinds of messed up. Let it cool and scuffed with 220 and resprayed another layer of chrome base and we will see.

well think by god i got it. I did the pulley out side of my booth while still hot from the oven on the reheat. It temped at 271. I sprayed the red with just a light dusting and BAMMMMM(in my best emeril)...no runs sags or anything. THe bracket got ground down again and is chromed and red waiting cooking. If this works out I will be doing a valve cover tonite.

ok after that long road on those parts yesterday I am refreshed and ready to tell my war story. After i figured out hot spraying worked out, I got all my peices done. everything was fine with the exception my first run on the valve cover got burn b/c some one turned the oven up to 500 degrees and the kandy just burned off and left me with a chrome base on all the bottom edges. THe second run on the cover yeilded great results. I left it in the oven but carefully watching. THat was a mistake b/c at the first sign of what could have been burning I took it out and hung it up on a hook. No problems. I figured I was done lets celebrate. so about two fermented beverages down i hear a klang, crash, bam, smoosh, and a holy jeepers powderman. I run to see and the hook had deformed and dropped the valve cover on the floor and then it bounced and hit my 80 inch evo engine i just finished stroking to a 113 cu in. So off to the oven to heat up and another layer of kandy. I covered the spots which luckily only went to the chrome base. It took i cooked it cooled in the oven door open oven off. the parts are done experience learned and now I will work on gettting a few more pratice peices right all the way through.
