Default Gun cleaning

Hi everyone. New guy here. This forum is great. I have learned alot by reading what everyone has experienced. I have a problem that I did not see anything on and that is gun cleaning. I used a white gloss PC on a part the other night. Shortly before that I used a red color. My second part had red specks all thru the white after my bake. I used compressed air to blowout every hole I could find repeatedly to ensure I had a clean gun before I changed colors. Does anyone know of anything else I can do to clean my gun better? This is really frustrating me. Thanks Greg

Hi Greg, well, as you do, i just try to blow everything out and i seem to have good results as long as i make sure to get every nook and cranny. I've heard of people dissasembling the trigger mechanism and the air adjustment screw (located under the hopper/powder feed area). They say that powder tends to hide in those areas (in the threads, etc.). Wish i could help you better than that.

By the way, perhaps you should pay attention to where the bottom "air adjustment" screw is set. Maybe even mark it somehow so you know where it started and can adjust your gun to spray the way you want.

Also, if you returned any leftover powder back into your can of gloss white powder, you may now have a few specks of red lurking within. Something to think about. (Did the same thing with some clear, so don't feel bad.)

Couple things I do that seem to help....

Lay out your colors for the day, and choose an order that will "hide" the previous colors better if you do get some contamination. For example, say you shoot blue, red, and white. I'd first make certain that the gun is sparkling clean, use the white, then the red, and then the blue. My thinking is that the white would "hide" better on the red, and the red will "hide" better on the blue. Obviously, the goal is to not have any contamination, but a little planning will help if it does happen.

I also bought a second gun just for metallics. Solid colors in one gun, metallics in the other. Mark your cups and lids as well.

YMMV.

I'm still having the same trouble. I cleaned my gun as thorough as I could see. I took out my adjustment screww on my gun and cleaned that area too. I am just missing something I guess. I did try to shoot a white before a darker color. Cleaned my gun after then shot emrald green which is real dark. I had white specks in my coat. You can't see them before curing, but they were there. Kind of a neat look if I wanted that look. Kind of a problem if I want the darker color only. I may have to buy another gun for white. I will keep trying, I have to be missing some area of cleAning on the gun. Thanks for the help

Once you have blown out the gun and put in you new powder.....Shoot the gun into a box or bag. Yes, it waists powder however, redoing a part is a waist of time. Never had a problem.

I think haveing a second gun is an excellent idea. Especially if you shoot a lot of parts that need to be cleared.

A spray bottle with water is handy for cleaning up after the day's use. Also, Acetone will melt and disolve uncured powder real easy. I use water or Acetone to clean my powder cups after the days work, and spray mu gun thourally inside and out with water(with the power off) I don't spray inside the trigger, just the outside, and inside the powder delivery section. It's a good idea to do it at the end of the day, so you sure it will have time to dry before the next time you use it. I am currently trying to rig up a high voltage plug I can use on my gun, so I can remove it form the Pwr supply and take to the sink. Much easier to clean and store then.
