Default Low Cure powder on throttle body

I have a customer with a throttle body and he says it has seals inside that are a pain to get out. My question is, is there a low cure powder that can achieve not messing up these seals if they are left inside of the throttle body?

I would take em out. I know under hood temps get very high so it might be tempting to think that the seals are designed to take alot of heat, but even the curing temps of low cure powders might be slightly high. As a mechanic with 23 years experience I would not recommend curing the throttle body with the seals in. In fact I would check to make sure that new seals are available before anyone touches that throttle body. I have taken many of them apart and have never had a problem removing seals. My advice is that if the customer won't remove the seals I would refuse the job. In fact...depending on the manufacturer, I might be tempted to pass on the job seals or not. Not everything metal should be powder coated.

Well I never tried but I have seen others that did it without problems. Being in the TB building business (I make billet TB's) I know he isn't talking about seals but actually the TB bearings that the shaft moves on. If it was the seals like the TPS IAC sensor seals then those will melt. I don't know how well the bearings will hold up but they are plastic and also metal at least our bearings are metal outside and then plastic in the center. I haven't tried to coat them but I would remove the shaft etc from it and tape off the bearing area for sure. I have a old stock TB here that I am going to take apart the shaft and spring stuff and coat it. It's already bead blasted and cleaned up I just have to remove the butterfly plate and screws that hold the plate and remove the shaft. Just be careful alot of the screws for the plate will break when you try to remove them I know that one stock TB I took apart they both broke because the way the factory kinks them so they don't rattle loose. If all goes well I will post up. But for sure make him remove the plate screws that way when he messes them up it doesn't end up costing you and he can have them drilled out and rethreaded which is what I did when I broke them.

Yeh he took out the shaft and that small screw you are talking about. He said he screwed one up before and learned his lesson! Anyways....heres a pic of before and after on the TB today...

I taped off the top where the shaft goes through

I PC'd a TB as well a few weeks ago. But no issues with the bearings at all. Just removed the shaft and stuff I did break a screw for the plate but was easy just drilled the screw out and used a tap in the same size to get the little bit that I left as I drilled the bolt out smaller. Anyways I just used the green tape and taped off the bottom mounting of the TB as well as the bore of the TB. Also taped off the TPS and IAC sensor mounting stuff.

Coated it like normal baked it like normal and had no issues. It's on my car right now working great.
