I have a set of Harley rims and a rear rotor that I polished the edges on, taped the polished areas and then shot the rest of the rims and rotor with super wet black. After curing them, they looked really good. After preheating the rear rotor to 200 degrees, I shot it with super gloss clear coat, to protect the polished areas, and put it in the oven (at 400 degrees) to cure.
I checked the rotor after about 10 min. to see how it was doing, and the clear looked milky, so I let the oven cool to 200 and shot more clear on the rotor. Put the rotor back in the oven and cured it. When I took the rotor out, the polished areas were still milky and had a lot of orange peel. The black areas looked OK for the most part, just a little orange peel in places. The black also had areas where the clear was still grainy.
I cured the clear for about 45 min. so I don't think that it is under cured.
I guess I will have to strip the rotor and try again, it is not to hard to redo. I don't want to mess up the rims as they take a lot of tapeing to get ready for coating.
Any ideas out there?
