Default Blue wrinkle powder coat

I got a customer wanting blue wrinkle on his valve pan but I can't seem to match up his color with the Caswell blue wrinkle because its too dark. Anyone know of a distributor of blue wrinkle that would be a shade lighter than Caswell's?

Colors will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. What are you trying to match it to? If it's an existing color you will have a very hard time doing this. For instance I have a customer who wanted me to match a 1964 caddy blue. This became an impossible task because even with the original paint code it was just a little off. The only way to match was to have a custom batch made, but that's very expensive. If you're trying to match a texture to a nontextured paint or powder you won't be able to do it. At least not with conventional means. Again you're back to custom mixes. Solid colors are a little easier to match, but anything tinted, metallic, or textured is gonna give you fits. If you're trying to match to other parts the best approach might be to coat the other parts to match the pan. Thats what I did.

you will need to find out the manufacturer of that powder and from there you can find a distributer. Best of luck on this one. Just remember that textures can vary quite a bit from batch to batch. They vary in color, tint and texture. I have my doubts that you'll get a match to that sample. The problem is that even if you have the sample from your customer and one from a manufacturer and you can get the basic color correct, the variables in the texture can actually change the color quite a bit. I hope I'm wrong...Good luck and please let us know how it turns out.

Well I figure maybe a little shade off, he isn't gonna sweat much. I saw a light testure and dark texture...but nothing in between? I emailed the guy and asked where he got that pic so maybe I can email the owner of that pic and get a company name from him. I'll be sure to let ya know how it goes...he hasn't got the valve cover here yet but if he does I wanna be ready to do it and get it out the door. I'm not about to order 55lbs of any custom color and have it go bad on me because I don't use it that often.

I have been in situations where I've had to order a few lbs' of powder in order to make a close match. I don't recommend doing that as it can get a bit on the pricey side. After buying a few lbs with the shipping costs you might think you bought a 55lb box. Although you might be able to get the customer to pay for it under the guise of custom color matching.
