hi all,
i have not talked to any powder suppliers about this yet so dont get your hopes up. heres the deal, i am in need of color samples to show what is available to perspective customers. i have tried printing off colors and am not satisfied with results. does not reflect true colors. my printer i am sure is not the best. i have a few customers that i supply coating services to and they want color samples/cards to show there customers whats available to make the sale. they then want me to supply that exact color. a print out is not accurate enough and a cataloge that covers more than colors is not desirable for the salesman. i have access to a sheetmetal shop and can shear up a few thousand 2"x2" plates and coat these plates in all colors that are available from a powder supplier. before i do this i need to know if anyone else out there is in need of these. if there seems to be a defanite need i will talk to caswell to see if there is any way that i can supply this service to them and they can sell the samples to you guys. if you need these as well post a reply. thanks ron SKID ROWE CUSTOM POWDER COATING DES MOINES IOWA 515-371-6310 |

You can buy small panels for this, it would save you a lot of work. They even have them pre-phosphated. You don't have to prep them (no sharp edges) and they have a hole for hanging. I've been thinking that it would nice to have a set of q-panels for the Caswell powders, but I understand why they don't make them. They shouldn't be free. What should they cost? A buck a piece maybe? It would be nice to buy them as a set to show to customers.

We have a commercial painting company and SherwinWilliams and Porter Paint company's have a color index that has the lil 1x1 samples. Now they are supplied to us free because of the amount a $ we spend with them but I'd be more than willing to purchase a color ondex from Caswell.Pictures don't give the colors any justice .The index's we recieve is acually available to consumers at $45.00 .

Here is what I do, since caswell gets most of the powder thru Tiger I call tiger and they send me all the color chips I want. Most are 2X3, I have the whole collection of there Candy colors plus about 1/2 of there standard colors and the best part was it cost me nothing. But I do have an account with Tiger but I only buy black and white thru them as I buy that in 100lbs box's.
Call then can not hurt.. Jim S...

i will give tiger a call. thanks for the tip. one question though if caswell gets most of his powder there wouldnt he be able to get a supply of them and offer them for sale to the people that buy his powder. just a thought. i am in need of at least 4 sets. i am not the one that always makes the final sale on things. the people that i supply my services too are in need of them as well. not complaining here, just trying to solve a problem that will make my services more desirable.
thanks for all the help guys ron skid rowe custom powder coating |

We only get about half our powders from Tiger. I'm sorry, but we've asked and asked and only get chips in dribs and drabs. We can't offer these to people because we can't ensure a constant supply. If we said we had color chips available, and you ordered some, only to find out that it might take 4 weeks to get the order, how happy would you be?
I'm interested in your proposal to make chips for us...if you're interested, drop me a line.

i am not trying to do or say anything negative here. i have a sitaution that i am simply trying to find an answer to. i hope that in this other people can benefit from the outcome. any and all thoughts are appreciated. i will talk with my sheet metal shop and see what can be worked out with them. i can get the sample plates made relatively cheap. although the cost of steel is very high right now. i saw in one of the posts dog tags was an idea. not a bad one at that. i am open to any suggestions and am only hoping to provide a service that all on this site can benefit from. my way of saying thanks for all the help you have given me. i will contact you in the very near future to see what we might be able to work out.
thank you ron skid rowe custom powder coating |

Local store here just called me. I can get 3x4" aluminum tags that are used by Forestry here to mark trees and such. There $30/100 I think I'm gonna get a batch. Atleast I was thinking of having a "keychain" like sample pack hanging with my flyers at various stores. That way, peeps can see the coatings, then take a flyer

I like the idea of the color chips, but I'm a little curious. Are you going to do a single coat over mill finished aluminum or steel or are you going to shoot base coats and then top coats? You can see where this is leading. If you polish the metal than do different base coats and then final color coats your are going to have a multitude of chips. A lot of coaters shoot over chrome powder or some other base coat. How about metallics? Yikes, alot of work!
