Default so i have a problem

I did a set of a-arms for my brother, did the tops in super chrome with a high gloss clear top, and the bottoms in super chrome then with the lollypop blue for a top. I did everything as i normally would and they turned out looking exactly like we wanted them to, i even dropped the tops a few times and no chips. Now my problem is when we went to put the bottoms on they chipped really easy, and when i say easy i mean like slipping with a wrench and a huge chip comes out! So far the only things i could think of were that either my gun sucks and i need to get a better gun (I'm using the chicago electric gun for now), or the part wasn't grounded good enough. I need some help here, i'm up **** creek w/o a paddle here.

I think transparent/candy colors tend to chip easier than others, espescially on edges. Did you fully cure the 1st coat? What was your cure time and temp on the top coat? Is it possible that it's undercured?

Sounds like it was under cured. If your using an IR temp gun they do not give accurate readings on the reflective surfaces like the chromes and will usually read much higher than the actual temp of the part.

i don't have an ir gun yet, i found out my problem, did a couple test runs last night to find the problem, and i believe the problem was that the parts were not grounded properly

i would look for something other than the ground to be your problem. the ground is needed to draw the powder to your part. you can coat without the ground you just waste a lot of powder doing it. i do not think it would have any affect on the performance of the coating. under cured and or metal prep sounds like the culprit to me. read through the forum i think you will find the answer to your problem. hope this helps and good luck.

easy way to figure it out
if when it chipped you could see the metal below first coat failed
it when it chip only the candy chip out candy coat not fully cured
just the way i do it , not the exact wat to do it.
