Chipping either sounds like not cured enough, or to much cure on basecoat. I half cure the base, 15 min @ 392* then shoot the lolly colors when part is approx 200*, then bake for another 15 min @ 392*

No need fopr a clear, that is what Lollopop and translucients are, colored clearcoats.
Unfortunately, you can not just shoot again. you need to remove all the powder and start again. Sux I know, been there/done that

Did you sandblast the frame? How did you prepare it? sounds like there just isn't enough tooth for the powder to grip on to. Get that sometimes with highly polished metals.

Sandblasting, then chemical degrease
a pre-bake at 25-50* higher than cure temp for min 30 min. to remove moisture and oils
Then, do not touch the metal at all with bare fimgers.
Shoot base when part has cooled to just below 200*F
half cure, then cool to below 200 again and shoot lolly.
Finish bake cycle

I allways prebake every part I coat. Its cheap insurance.

The frame was sand blasted. Then i used brake cleaner, blow off the brake cleaner with commpresed air and put it it the oven for about 10 min to burn off any cleaner.I did fully bake my base coat pulled it out of the oven and waited about 2 min then shoot the blue.I baked the blue for 20min.Iam using siver base from coulmbia coatings (if that matters).Iam blasting the frame down and redoing it I just don't want to do it a 3rd time.Do you think a clear coat would help with chipping .I was told on a cany orange that you need to put clear on just the orange.??

Did the part reach cure temp and then start the cure time? If not you're undercured.

Mine did the same thing. It was shot on a LT1 intake. I blasted it, cleaned it off, heated it at cure temp for 30min, and shot it while it was still warm (I don't know the exact temp cause i don't have a laser temp gun). I shot the blue over bare metal. The guy said it did the same thing with slight taps from a socket it chipped. I guess the part didn't get up to cure temp for long enough? Before I shoot it again I am going to get a temp gun! Any other advice, besides what has been said? Thanks!
