Thanks for the good info

Yes, a little propane torch or something similar to burn off any lint, seen or unseen.
Scotchbrite on the chrome to give it some tooth.

fl70 got it. Scotchbrite on chrome if using a solid color. Candies/Transparents on chrome or polished metals don't scotchbrite. As far as the lamps go, you'll have to move them. You won't be able to handle the part.
