I talked to a powder coater today to see what it would take to spray my Steel Computer case. He said he can spray it but he recommends against using the high gloss powder coat because there are many angles in my case thus he says, it is more susceptiable to the Faraday Cage effect. He also said that b/c some parts of my case previously had paint on them that any imperfection would show up with the high gloss powder coat.
He recommended the flat black powder coat, he said it is more forgiving and will not show minute defects and the like. I really wanted the high gloss but if it is going to look bad I wont do it. Is the guy correct, is the high gloss more riskey, should I listen to him and get the flat black or just go high gloss ? Thanks |

The case can be disassembled, coated, then reassembled.
Do a search in the member galleries, there are a couple of cases in there.

Here is a pic, I decided to go with another powder coater who will sand blast and do gloss black for 120.00. I think the 1st guy didn't know exactly what he was doing.
The case will be coated assembled, I dont have a rivit gun to re assemble it if I take it apart. One more question when I get the case back ( done in gloss balck coat) is there a way to polish it or something to make it as shiney as possiable ? Thanks for all your advice |

I honestly reccomend taking the case apart. A Pop rivet gun is only like $15. And maybe another $5 for the rivets. It will be hard to get in the corners with Powder. ANd, the powder will build up and cover the seams of parts.
Here's a pic of my case I did a few years ago. Took it competely apart. Added alot of hiden features when I put together. Outside is factory, the inside is satin black

So I got the case back and it looks great there are a few light spots but overall its fine but there are some small scratches in the coat. What is the best way to buff them out / shine the coat up w/o sanding. A good wax perhaps ?
