Default Okay, What happened to this??

I run this part today, with Chrome. What I got is orange peel or that's what I think. But here's another thing, the surface wasn't smooth, but not like in the picture. What didn't I do or what did I do wrong? It's made from 1/4" steel plate.

It was media blasted with Black Magnum (coal slag) and blown off, then cleaned twice and handled with Nytril gloves. Baked for 20 minutes @ 400 after flow out.

Can I sand just the bumps smooth and recoat it? Or?
Thanks, JT

Looks like thin spray to me. Chrome needs a thicker coat I have found, to flow smoothly

Did you pre-bake at 450 for 20-30 min?

I did re-cure it. But after I sanded it smooth, I cured it for 30 at 400. It took it quit awhile to get to that temp. The item, not the oven. It came out smooth, but didn't have the shine that another part I did at the same time did. More of a smokey chrome, but shinny. And picked a couple of, fish eyes? Need to get my act together!!! picture included.

Lets make sure I understand you. You sanded the part and put it back in the oven for a 2nd cure cycle. After you sanded it, did you apply a 2nd coat of powder?

If you did apply a 2nd coat of powder and cured at 400 for 30 min. I think you may be overcuring, that would explain the loss of gloss.

Right. I sanded it totally smooth and then re-coated and then recurred it. I'm thinking that was a no no. Well after posting it last night, I've decided to strip it and start from scratch. I guess that's called paying the price for being stupid! No short cuts allowed. So you live and learn.
