Default How to do multiple powder colors on these wheels

This is a first for me, so I'm trying to make sure they come out nice, since they are for my project Blazer. I want the lip and the fins to be ultra chrome and the face of the wheel to be gloss black.

Should I do the entire wheel in black, then wait for it to cure, then tape off, preheat and spray hot in ultra chrome, then cure, then preheat and spray hot in clear?

Or should I spray the chrome first and then tape off for the black?

Or some other method?

I'd do Black first, full cure. Then tape, spray chrome. Bake till gloss over/flow out, 15 min or so. Remove tape and shoot clear. Then bake for remainder of chrome time.

I seem to have great results with half baking chrome, 10-15min, then shooting clear, and baking anopther 15. Cures the chrome and the clear. ANd the chrome stays more chrome looking. Doesn't oxidize as much.

if i get this right he is doing the lip and top of fins chrome .
that means the grooves between the fins will be black ,if he does the black first how would you suggest masking inside the grooves ?

i ll have to try that half baking the chrome ,i might get better results .
thanks

Ya, I had my layers backwards on that I guess. So then, do the chrome first, then clear it. Easiest to do whole rim. Then, mask, spray black, half bake, till Flow Out. Then remove tape and final cure.

Any time you spray chrome, you need to clear it right away, it's 2 coats or nothin. It will start oxidizing immediately, and the longer it oxidizes, the duller it gets. I allways bake chrome half time, then shoot clear coat(or a transparent clear) hot, when part has cooled to just below 200*F

Nah, you had it right the first time. The actual face of the wheel will be black and the smaller slots will be chrome.

My gun is acting up, but once I get it figured out I'm going to try and work on one of the wheels.
