Default new to this deal...no new user sticky?

howdy all.

names mitch.
i'm an automotive craftsman by trade.
i build, paint, pinstripe, letter, maintain and repair cars and motor bikes.
my passion is for the paint and detail side of the building process.

i'll be opening an independent operation later this year and hope to expand into full custom in 3.

so i'm the middle of building my personal showcase bike and, as you know, the devil is in the details...

after pricing powder coating locally, i decided that learning to do it myself would be more advantageous and more profitable in the long run.

i was surprised that i didnt find a 'getting started' sticky on the front page of this forum so i'll just ask the questions...

for now, i'll probably buy the $99 PC gun set up from caswell. i'm only going to do small motorbike parts for now but if this catches on and i find its a service i would like to provide my customers, i'll probably grow into some different equipment...

i scored an electric double oven from a remodel the other day...its just big enough to fit a gas tank or fender in or lots of small stuff...

so my question is...

beyond a gun and oven, what should i outfit myself with? what type of prep and masking supplies etc...

as in...if you were going to build a 'start up kit' what would it contain?

thanks for any insight.

Hi Mitch. The double oven sounds like a good deal, you can do two jobs at once, or use one side for food

How are you set up for paint prep? A major part of the PC process is getting all of the old paint, rust etc. off by some method, usually by blasting. A good compressor and blast cabinet will be a huge help. Maybe you already have something.

An assortment of silicone plugs and some high-temp tape will come in handy for plugging off holes and mating surfaces.

I think stainless steel safety wire (0.041") is great for hanging small parts in the oven.
