Default Help Rust under clear coat..

Hello,

I got my motorcycle fenders/gas tank pc'd.

Colors are satin black and bare steel with a satin clear.

Now 3 weeks later i notice this. It is because it is bare steel with a clear over top or what is causing this. Also can i put satin clear over bare metal and have it not rust??

looks like the tins weren't completely cleaned and dry before coating, or that rust was already there. once properly coated, you won't get rust, whether you use color or clear.
on the lines, crisp lines require good masking. you're always going to have a 'drop off' point between the powder and metal though. thinner coverage will create less of an effect, and the clear can help mask some of it as well.

Thanks, i figured that it was the prep work that was done on it.

Can finger prints cause a piece to start rusting.

Also the rust was not there to begin with it was a fender off of an 06..

any kind of soil can cause rust, corrosion. plus, eventually it will probably cause adhesion problems.

any humidity ,oil , or acid on your skin will affect the metal . alo being from a 2006 has nothing to do with it as soon as your metal has been stripped ,sanded or blasted, oxidation starts .the better you clean and the fastest you coat it better are your chances that rust ill stay away longer

Have to agree with baz.
Always wear latex or nitrile gloves when handling parts.
You could give the bare area a light sanding after curing the satin black, wipe it down with pre, dry, then shoot the clear.
For slightly cleaner lines, press the edge down firmly and leave the tape for the duration of the cure.
