Default My Caswell gun Mods

OK, as per request, I am making this post to show the few mods I did to my Caswell adjust voltage gun. Really helps the powder delivery.

First off, I snipped the threads off the end, to make the Diffuser slide on/off. Much faster. But now, I have found that I dont even use the diffuser, and am getting alot better powder transfer, with very minimul waste.

Then, I feathered the leading edge of the Charge piece that goes into the barrel.

I also snipped off the tip of the flush air screw to let max air go down the barrel.

Then, I drilled 2 holes, approx 1/8" I guess, on either side of the air inlet fitting to the cup

I now run the gun at approx 10 PSI static pressure( no air flowing) and with the difusser tip Off. I am finding it's covering large flat areas as well as corners real well. And I am not getting near as much powder fall to the floor. I just did a 8 Ft long sign for hanging above a driveway, and a Bush bumper and they turned out better than I could have ever done with an unmodified gun.

Nice writeup.
I'll have to try it one one of mine to compare the improvement before I get to the others. That's the one thing I dislike about these guns is the wasted powder.

The guns are the same for the $95 and the $230 versions. It's the power supplies that are different. The mods will be just fine on the cheaper gun

One thing I have noticed with my gun is that if I use the diffuser on the end, it adds extra charge to the powder. So much charge that I get a 2" spark off the end. I think it's over charging with that much spark. Without it, no long sparks. I have tested this with a few different powders, and with about 6 Lbs. Allways, with difusser, nasty charge, without, nice and consistent.

PS, I only have the Large difuser, because I accidentally threw the other 2 smaller ones out with the packaging the gun came in

Do you mods help you get into the Faraday affect areas better with the 50kv gun?

I am thinking about ditching my EastWhatever hobby gun for one of the Caswell guns, cuz I hear so much better stuff about them, but I don't know which one to get. I hear people say the 50kv gun does not go low enough voltage to get into the corners and stuff, so I don't know which one to choose.

Yes, turn down to 35Kv, it gets into corners nicely now. I just did a front rack for a 4 wheeler, It has that expanded metal on it. It was a little tough to get into all the area's, I ended up putting the diffuser on and smothering the rack in powder to get into the really tight area's, with the voltage off. But for most things, it gets the tight areas Much nicer.

If your leery of drilling holes, just try how your gun sprays without the diffuser on. Removeal of the diffuser is what helps the powder stick in corners.
