I really need to coat my turbo chargers exhaust housing - it has turned an ugly brown color due to heat and humidity im sure.
I have looked into getting it SwainTech coated or Jet Hot'd but they need the turbo housing for a long time - about 2 weeks on average. They also want to charge me $150 to do it. Is there something that is durable enough to coat a turbo exhaust housing (temperatures might reach 1000 - 1200F. Has anyone used the coatings? I want a silver or chrome look so I was looking at the chromex product the only issue I have is the steel wool/vibratory polisher portion - what does the product look like if not vibratory polished? I don't want to alter the geometry of my turbo housing internally or the openings. Thanks guys. I guess I could just go black, too. Hrm. Here is the item I need to do:

Caswel's Satin Black ceramic will handle 2000*F. I have had the ceramic burn on is Turbo Snowmobile applications, but the Satin Black has been great. Spray with a HVLP gun and bake, no polish needed

Sorry to get off topic here, but what does "Up pipe design" mean? |

Gotcha... Most V8 single turbo kits I've looked at use this design... never heard of it called "Up pipe" design tho.
Is there any benifit to this design? As I understand it, you want the turbo as close to the exhaust ports as possible.. as it helps with spool time and you don't want to dispurse any heat until after the turbo. I'm hoping to turbo my classic mustang this winter... will probably be using an "Up Pipe" design myself. |

because of the layout of a flat 4 or flat 6 engines...you have to have an additional pipe. my wrx goes from the engine into the exhaust manifold...then to the up pipe, the turbo, the down pipe, the mid pipe, then the rear section.
notice i didn't say anything about cats

I have acctually had luck with sanding the cerakote before you bake it. Sand it with 400 grit wet/dry, then applied another coat. Then, polishing by had, it came out real nice. The reason I sanded it, was because I had a run. And the spot that I sanded and resprayed, was twice as shiny. Just something to play with.
