I'll be taking in my fenders and burning them off tomorrow. Then hopefully over the next little while I can work on coating them.

thin out the lab metal with the lab solvent and while you are applying lab metal, keep your putty knife wet with the solvent so you have more time to work it, shape it and form it before it dries.

Thin the entire can with the lab solvent(just a capful or two)

Well I finally got my fenders done and coated. I had to burn them off @ 750 for 4 hours to remove the old paint and body filler (yes the panels are still straight). I then had them sand blasted to a near white. I could have just had them blasted, but it makes it faster for the blaster. Then where I needed filler I used the high temp lab metal. I did probably 3 applications in one area, total thickness maybe and 1/8". I then coated them with a zinc epoxy primer. After gelling them, you could see where the filler was applied as it had outgassed around the perimeter of the filler. I then sanded those areas down, applied my first coat of white. Then gelled it again. After coming out of the oven there were only a couple bubbles and the rest was fine. I sanded it all again one final time and then coated. Cured the parts and no outgassing problem areas. I was ok with the process as I had planned on doing the primer/1 coat/2 coat/cure.

Zinc epoxy primer as in liquid paint? It handles the baking heat?
