Thats what I was kind of trying to find out. I have a huge powder cloud and I dont know why. Im hopeing its because it has a ground issue and not sticking. So if anyone has a video showing the right way would help. The last video they said they did alot of things wrong.

Can someone tell me if there is a big diff between the old hobby gun and the 50 kv gun. I have the 50 kv gun and still think Im wasting a lot of powder. How bad is the old gun. I even thought about getting the HR Chicago gun.

The adjustable kv gun is going to help quite a bit with faraday cage areas and second coats.

i've used both and didn't really see the difference. i don't do a lot of parts that have cavities, so i don't have faraday cage problems, and i can't offer advice re that. the solution to faraday cages is to turn the voltage DOWN, so i don't see why the adjustable model would help with that. double coats, maybe. i don't feel like either of them work particularly well for double coats though. our 100kV gun does the trick there.

if i were to buy another of those guns, i'd go with the non-adjustable.

also, see the thread about modifying the gun a bit. particularly by drilling 3 extra holes (there's 1 to start) in the fluidizing nozzle in the cup. works WONDERS for smoothing the flow.

Exactly. I guess I've never used the hobby guns and don't know the kv used. But if you're having trouble with a faraday area you don't have the option of reducing the kv.

I feel I need to add this as well.
I have a hobby gun from EW. Nothing fancy, just the cheapy. I also have the Caswell 50kv gun.

What I have learned is the EW gun can be adjusted to not put out so much powder, but it still wastes.

Now with the Caswell kv gun, I have learned to make air adjustments at the gun, and also use the adjustment on the underside of the handle. I use it the most,as I seems to need adjusted from time to time. The main air, I get it set at about 10 #'s and leave it.

I also only put a small amount of powder in the cup. Maybe about 8 to 10 of the coffee scoops. I have a fairly nice cloud and not overly cloudy. It's a fine spray and I adjust my distance to the way the powder is flowing out of the gun. By controlling the flow of the powder, I don't seem to have the Faraday issues that a lot of guys do. Although, I do run into those that fight me from time to time. But most of the time the gun works pretty good. You just have to find that sweet spot for you and your gun.

Hope this helps.

Thats what I've been trying to point out with the links. You need to know how the gun works and practice with it.
