zoeconner,

Another thought. Take a "C" clamp two pieces of 1/4" rod. Sharpen the rod to a pin point. Cut the points to size. Weld them to the mounting pads of the "C" clamp. Granted 14 gauge metal is pretty thin, but I think the clamps will hold so you can powder coat them. May I ask what these will be used for?

Kind of stupid. I wanted to coat both sides. Then I was wanting to go to office max and get a rubber stamp made of my buisness card and then stamp the metal thats been powdercoated to make biusness cards. I have one someone made out of copper and its the best card I have. What do you think. I thought of doing it out of loly pop blue. I think that would look nice.

for some reason i thought you were doing 1.5"x2.5" solid steel blocks, not dog tags! i missed the part about the 14ga. personally, i would drill a tiny hole in the corner or in the center like a dog tag and hang them. maybe ppl (or you) would hang them at their place so the hole would serve dual purpose.

or, as suggested, try doing the back, cure, then do the front so thay can be laid flat.

i think i'd find this the most reasonable and least offensive option so far. almost like the card is a keychain. that's kind of sweet.

the only other idea i have is to use a c-clamp or smiliar to clamp it corner-to-corner.

I havent did any powdercoat yet. Comes tomorrow. Cant wait!! So if you cure one side first then flip it over and do the other side, will the frst side get damaged or remelt? Sorry for being a noob. BUT, I like the keychain idea.

i would expect imperfections doing it like this. you'll probably try 10 or so things before you get something you like, which may end up looking completely different than what you had in mind to begin with. but that could be a good thing since this is an off-the-beaten-path idea anyway. also, i imagine you may depart from the 14ga steel. that'll be a pretty beefy card! 18ga aluminum might be a good alternative, and it'd take stamping better. and aluminum coats in candies well with little prep. give us updates and pics along the way!

i didn't even think about how heavy the 14ga would be. that WOULD be a heavy card. hell, the thickest steel on my oven is 20ga, and that's barely cuttable w/ aviation snips.

could probably get away w/ 26 or 28ga, tho i don't know how well they would take to stamping.
