Default Taping off Lettering?

i read the Eastood forum post of a guy that did valve cover lettering by covering the letters with green paitners tape and cutting out the letters.

I tried this and its hard.. Hard to see the edges of the letters and takes along time... anyone know a better way to do this?

have a few valve covers that i need seperate color on the letters

Pc the whole valve cover the color you want the letters to be and 1/2 to 3/4 cure. Pc the second color and using a damp finger or the cheap foam paint sponges remove the powder from the letters an full cure.
I'd post a pic for you ,but this site sucks arse to post pics on. Shoot me an e-mail at harleydad@new.rr.com and put "2 color valve cover" in the subject line. I'll reply and attach a pic.

Coated white, gelled, coated blue, removed the blue with q-tips, cured. It took a long time to clean up the lettering. I don't think it was the best way to do it, but it worked.

Ya I coated the whole thing white. Basically I put it in the oven long enough for the powder to flow out. You don't want to leave it in there too long.

so you sprayed blue over all that uncured white?.. wasnt it kind of rough over the lettering? i would think if it fully cured the lettering would be smooth and easier to wipe the blue off ?? am i off base here?

yes, you're offbase! you don't have to fully cure the base, in this case the white. as said spray the white then let flow out for a few mins. pull the part & cool enough to handle without yelps escaping your maw. then spray the blue & using your favorite method remove the blue from the lettering & then fully cure.

what if you tape around the whole word... spray white, then clean up between the letters with a q-tip, fully cure.. then spray blue and clean off letters and bake?
