Default Could use a little help making decisions

    Hello to all,

I have read many posts on here and have absorbed a lot of knowledge but still have questions I hope someone can advise me with.

First of all I have NOTHING for powder coating and am setting up from scratch. I have a 14' X 24' building I will be dedicating to this effort. I plan to powder coat and ceramic coat. Most of the items I plan to coat are car parts (powder and ceramic) and items I make myself in my welding shop.

I want to properly build the following items.

Sand blast room - I want to build this room in one corner of the building and make it 7'X12' with a door. I plan to have a squirrel cage fan blowing exterior air through a hose into a hood when blasting. Will also have a small blast cabinet next to the door (inside the room) for small items. Will use a shop vac to pick up the media and then filter it into a large can for reuse.

What should I do that I have not thought of? Am I doing anything incorrectly? Any suggestions to make it better?

Paint/powder/ceramic room - Not sure if this is the best way to do this or not but I plan to build a room next to the sandblast room for a "paint room." Basically this would be next to the sandblast room in the back of the building. I do not know the requirements for a paint booth but have the ability to exhaust air through the floor which may or not be useful. The room is easy, the airflow, filtering, etc.. is all new to me and I do not know what I need to do in this room.

Please advise of what is needed in this room.

The two rooms would take up the back 12' and split the width of the building. The doors would be towards the center of the building and outside each door would be shelves or cabinets that hold everything related to the room behind it. Lighting will can be up to three fluorescent (4 bulb each) light fixtures mounted in the corner made by the wall and ceiling and shining down at a 45 degree angle towards the opposing floor and wall joint. I have enough to put six lights in each of the two rooms.

Any advise or suggestions will be very helpful. I do not plan to recycle powder in the beginning, just get up and running. After I learn what I need to do quality work I will look at the possibility (and efficiency) of recycling powder.

If there is a reason not to combine these three processes (powder/paint/ceramics) into one room please let me know what problems I may encounter.

OVEN - I plan to build an oven that will be on lockable casters so I can move it around as necessary. I have seen some pretty good plans here and on the web so I think I have this handled. My only concern is if there is any drawback of using the same oven for ceramics and powder. I can't think of any so unless someone can shed light otherwise I will make one oven. It will be most likely 6'tall X 4'wide X 6'deep. I will also have a regular house type oven for small parts. Both will be controlled by PID controllers.

So, If anyone out there has any suggestions or sees potential problems I may run into, please advise.

Hopefully I will be able to help you guys with something in the future.

    Thanks,

    Bob

sounds like you're on the right track. no matter how much you read on here, you'll gain the most knowledge from just giving it a shot. start simple and improvements will come naturally.

as far as air flow, downdraft is great. no point in fighting gravity. filtration depends on how much money you want to spend and the efficiency you need. i'd recommend not worrying about efficiency too much and just exhausting to outside, so basic house furnace filters would work fine. it's no problem having a multi-purpose booth, aside from the filters. wet paint typically uses a very loose filtration media to prevent clogs, powder uses a much finer media. multi-purpose ovens are fine. the only reason, as far as i know, that some ovens are powder-only is because they won't heat to the temperature required for ceramics.
