I am going crazy and want to do this in the safest way possible. Electric is impossible for me because I am currently renting a garage where I park my car and have basically turned it into to a shop as it is, so Im sure the landlord wont let me convert the electricity to 240v. So heres what im trying to do, I have a regular home oven that is set up for natural gas, I have read the instructions and regulated the valves for propane. But I still have a problem and a worry, I cant seem to find a hose that will fit from the propane tank to the oven. My worry is that Natural gas has less pressure then a propane tank so therefor I think I need some sort of regulator (im not sure) even though I adjusted the oven to run propane. Does anyone know what exactly I need to do to set this up properly and where to buy what ever I need. I dont want to end up powder my self. Thanks

You need to go to an LP supplier and tell them what you want to do... they should have regulators and hoses to make the connection.
That being said, LP is nothing to screw with... and I would make sure your landlord and insurance company knows what you're doing |

I agree that you need to contact the supplier. BUT, you also should contact the manufacturer of the oven. You need to ensure that if presently used for natural gas you know what is needed to convert for LP.
I used to be in appliance repair and I can tell you that in many appliances the orfice needed to change. The natural gas orfice is much larger and sends out much more gas than what LP requires. I wouldn't think of trying it without first contacting someone that would know for sure (manufacturer). |

i know the old oven we used had a name plate under the stove top panel that said natty or lp. with a little online research i found out i had to 1) flip a plastic plug in the regulator, and 2) screw the orifice down tight. i originally only flipped the regulator plug and the flame was orange and all kinds of dirty. screwing the orifice down (almost) tight brought it back to a nice blue clean flame. i had the same difficulty finding an adapter to let me use a propane connection. when we built the oven we plumbed it from scratch so i just used the fittings i needed instead of an adapter.

First you will have to change the "orfice" in the gas valve. Then you will have to set the gas pressure. Natural gas needs about 3" inches of water colum whereas propane operates at about 10" inches of water colum. Probably the easiest thing for you to do is find a heating & air guy that does side jobs. It is complicated to the general public but a pro will know exactly what I am talking about. It is not a simple adjustment pressure wise you can make, you will have to change some internal parts in the gas valve and then check & adjust the pressure with a specialized pressure guage. Just about any h.v.a.c guy can do it, but he will probably have to get some parts , maybe even a new gas valve. You will definetly need the brand name of the oven + model & serial #'s of the oven and the gas valve too if possible. Please don't monkey with it too much it is very dangerous. Look for somebody in a heating & a/c van and grab their attention and talk to them, It won't cost you a dime for a minute of their time. Good luck and leave it to a pro..........
