Default Looking for feedback PLEASE!!!!

Hello,

I have 2 2000 watt heat lamps, my question is if I was to build a 7' long by 4' wide by approx 4' tall steel box would the two heat lamps get it hot enough to cure parts? I would have two cut outs just large enough for the heads of the lamps to go through. Should it be insulated? ANY HELP would be great. I just dont have enough to purchase a large oven yet.

THANKS everyone.

yes you need insulation & yes it would work but it would take forever to heat up. for that size you should go with @least 7.5kW.

I got 3-3000w heat lamps with the control box that came with it. I payed around $600. for and I was going to make an oven for it. All I have to do is make the box and put in a blower to suck hot air from the top and move it to the bottom away from the part. I was going to make it 7ft x 4ft x 4ft inside. I hope it don't take to long to heat it up to 400. I turned them on while they where on the floor and it got so hot that everone went outside in less then 2min. I bet my power meter was about to fly off the side of the building..lol

If you're using lamps it's better not to have a fan. Lamps heat the surface of an object not the air. Moving the air around will just remove heat from the object and heat the air. It would take forever to heat all the air in a box that size by the radiated heat of the objects. You need different heat control methods too since you can't measure the air temperature to determine the amount of heat in the part. You'll need an IR heat sensor aimed at the part(s). And for even heating, you'll want the parts to rotate.

Good luck with the lamps.

I want a fan in it cause thats what I want it to do is to heat up the air on the box like an oven does. just one of my lamps gets so hot that it's as good or I think better then an plane oven element. they did heat a big room up real good when I was just playing around with them. so I think it will heat that box up with no problem cause the heat will be stuck in that little box. My control box has everything I need in it. it's got 3 timers one for each lamp and I can set 1,2 or all 3 lamps to shut off at any temp just like an oven so it don't get over 400deg if I don't want it to.
Im not sure when I will start this oven cause I have another job. maybe this summer I will get to build it.

To give you an example, my oven has 10" thick insulated walls, 7'l 6'h, 5'w Have 18000watts heat in there, takes around 45-50 min to heat up in summer.
