Default Help me understand!

Every time I put clear over black it turns green
Also when I do dormant colors such as orange then coat over with a textured it also turns the black green

This cover was done with the dormant orange then I coated it with a texture.
Under the lights and the flash it looks great but the moment you put it in the sun light it looks like a green turd!

Can some one explain this?

Please note: There is no "fact checked" data in this post.

I've noticed in my experience that some powders tend to bleed. They seem to be powders that have a very good flow. I once coated a gas tank for a friend's motorcross bike. It was white with orange flames. I sprayed the orange first and cured it fully (because I didn't know any better), then tape masked the flames and sprayed the white. It turned out to be a cream color because the orange bled through. (It was uniform and turned out to look alright, but wasn't what I had planned.) There could be several reasons for that, I guess. Maybe that the white was thin and therefore slightly translucent. Maybe that I didn't actually cure the orange as well as I thought and the two coats blended together. I kind of don't really believe either of those ideas. (Mostly because I did the coating and I believe that I both cured the orange fully and I sprayed plenty of white for it to be opaque...and this same white is opaque over things like heat-stained steel.) Instead, I guess I think that sometimes strong pigments (or something) bleed through layers and affect the color of the top coat...even though this really doesn't seem to make logical sense.

You said that you experience this problem with "dormant" colors. What do you mean by that? Have you had the same problem with different blacks...or from multiple suppliers? Perhaps it has to do with a pigment in the black. I can't say that I have ever noticed a discoloration of black (or any other color) when I spray clear over it.

I'm interested to read what anyone else has to say about this.

are you saying that the texture black is turning green or just the parts tha had a clear coat on that was my guess would be your clear is over cured , temp to high or cure time too long.what is your cure temp and could the part be too close to the element?

Yes I say the dormant because I have to use the clear to bring out the color.
So lets just say the clear. I have also added another layer of texture with no results.

Yes the black is turning green . Its weird It looks TITS inside but the moment I went out side in the sun light its green. The orange letters are fine just the black part of the cover.

the best advice i can offer is park the car facing away from the sun to catch the shade from the hood.

that thing does look hella hot! really nice work and good luck on figuring out the green!

LMAO!! I wish I could tell the customer that. I stripped it and did it using a tropical candy orange instead of the dormant orange.

I used the the same textured black I did not use the clear or the dormant orange.
Im guessing it the combonation of the 3 colors that made it change.
Im just avoiding it from now on.
