Question Polishing Chromex with a blaster??

I have read a few threads that have said you can very lightly blast Chromex with glass beads to remove the initial DULL look and then polish? Will this work? More details as to the exact type of glass beads, gun pressure, technique

Thanks for any help.

it will not polish , it will look light silver and then will be harder to polish .
if you are polishing chromex you are better off using steel wool #000 and a polishing wheel
with white compound.

jtag, thanks for the reply. OK, I will stick to the #000 steel wool + polish.

Can I use polish like Mother's or will I need to use something else?

jtagger
What makes you say that it is harder to polish after bead blasting? I seem to have pretty good luck with it, doing it that way. I only blast it with 25-30 psi. I also buff it with a wheel. Hate the mess that the steel wool leaves behind.

I could never achived a very high polish chrome look with the blasting method .
once blasted it's harder to loose the blasting profile with the wheel
specialy in hard to reach areas

That's where a small light weight wire wheel and a Dremel comes into play. Just as with anything else in our line of work, be careful and take a little time with the wheel.

I have a set of SBC Block huggers to do in about a week.

Just being curious, how much do you guys charge to polish? I have been just using steel wool and telling customers polishing will cost extra. Most leave it as is and like it. But some, are turned off.

JTW, what material/abrasive do you use to blast the ceramic coating with prior to polish?

I understand jtagger's point that perhaps I might be adding an extra step by blasting maybe I'd just be making more work for myself. I will try steel wool then polish...and see if I'm happy. Sounds like it might be easier.

I use glass bead with air pressure set at 25-30 psi. Then I use my soft wire wheel or polishing compound and polishing wheel. Still experimenting.
I don't like the steel wool because it makes and leaves a mess.

Cool, guess I will have to try and experiment to see what works best for me too
