Default primer coat

I am new to this. This may sound like a stupid
question, but does a raw piece of metal need a
primer coat or could it be sprayed just with color?
Thanks for any help.
Bill

That depends on it's intended use. If it's subject to road salt or salt air climate such as Florida, I would use a primer. Another scenario to use a primer might be out gassing issues or too much blast profile.

I will use it for mostly car(s) parts. Under hood, interior, etc.
This car will not see road salt. I hope it will never see rain.
I'll practice on my car then go from there.

And what primer do we use?? I think I may have a winch bumper coming back for warranty. Was blasted, cleaned, prebaked, but otherwise not primerd. Dont want to be doing it a 3rd time.

Don't know if Caswell has one, I imagine they would. I do know Tiger has two. One is a dry protector primer and the other is zinc rich primer ( I believe thats what it's called).

You can go here to check the data sheets.

http://www.tigerdrylac.com/index.php?id=848

Zinc rich primer
Dry protector primer
Zinc free OGF primer

Don't want to step on Caswells toes, just trying to provide you with some info. Caswell may carry something like these, you'd have to check.
