Don't know anything about the gun, I've never used it. I'll have to leave that one to someone else. Blast away, and handle the parts with powder free nitrile gloves. Some say acetone leaves a film, your choice. You can probably blast and blow the part off with clean, dry air and be fine.

that gun is good.

we use acetone to degrease and have never had any problems with it leaving a film. the only drawback is rag lint, but that's not the acetone's fault. ...i need to get some better lint-free-er rags.

I've stopped wiping down blasted parts. Now it's just clean dry air and a back brush like you would use in the shower.

Would I get a better job if i used a primer. And how do you do multiple coats on parts such as colour over primer and clear over colour? My steel is new. Would a prepaint prep such as Dupont 4105S wash and wipe work. And if so do I use it before or after blasting??
Thanks

Pete

right on. i offered an incomplete answer... acetone we use on rolled aluminum sheet that comes straight from the mill. it's oily, but doesn't need blasted. i agree, after blasting, i think wiping is unnecessary and probably does more harm than good!

The powder will want to stick to the part...due to the charge. It makes powder coating easier than painting for the most part. The down-side is the "faraday" effect. The powder wants to stick, but to the easiest place possibe. It is harder to get powder to build in corners, internal spaces and hard to reach areas. There are ways to get around this (and many are posted on this forum, but each is kind of specific to the problem area). I would say small holes in a plasma cut sillouhette shouldn't be a problem. I don't know about how ornate or intricate the ironwork is, there might be some issues. Spray corners and/or intersections first and longer. Then spray the rest. Watch closely as you're doing it and you'll see what i mean. Try different tips for your gun if it comes with some. Mostly, though, it'll just take practice. Find some parts (or make some test pieces) that are similar to what you want to coat and try them first.
