Default Need Helpful Hints For Atv Frame

Hi Guys, a customer dropped off a freshly sandblasted atv frame today that he wants in black with a clearcoat.I have a few questions:
1. The profile on the frame is a bit rough (maybe 60 ) should I use a primer or try to sand the frame by hand to improve the profile?
2. Do you guys use a zinc phosphate on atv frames?
3.Will the clearcoat hide the probable imperfections in the black base coat due to the coarse profile?
4. In all the nooks and crannies on the frame there is still a little paint or powdercoating.Do I try to remove this little amount or do I powdercoat over?

Thanks.

yes, sand the frame down to knock the profile down. no I don't prime frames, sometimes use base coats though. try to get all the paint/powder removed.

If you have a way to pretreat it I would do that. I wouldn't sand down the profile myself. Couple ways I would do it. Either shoot the primer, then black, then clear. Or shoot a very light coat of the black, gel it, then put on a standard thickness of black, gel again, then apply the clear.

I would sand it down, no need for primer. Clean it good and spray your black as normal. Just a helpfull hint.... Clearcoat will not hide imperfections it will magnify them! If you get your black to the right film thickness there is no need for base coats or primers. use a peice of 220 grit and hand sand roughness, the powder black (at the right thickness) will hide some rough areas.
