welcome! your first part looks great! can't wait to see what else you shoot.

we built a propane oven (used a natural gas oven for donor parts) bc we had 120V circuits. shortly after the oven was done, we bought a shop with 220V. i still like the gas, though.

Thanks for the comments guys! I'll be sure to keep you posted on other parts/developments. From what I understand, there's a lot of neat things that can be done with blending powders and working with clears, etc. Can't wait to get the larger oven up. I'm sure that I'll end up itching to build an even bigger oven before too much longer!

Can you apply a second coat directly over top of the first, as long as the part is grounded properly? That's one thing I wasn't sure on, because I wanted to put a clear on my "test hook" just for grins.

Anyway, you guys have an awesome community here. Glad to be a part of it!

I think you'll do just fine. I was kinda worried too, because I didn't know what to expect. That's why I used a part that really wasn't worth anything for my first run. You can believe that there will be plenty more "throw away" parts coated before I get into any of my rims or whatnot. Let us know how it goes!

yes, but it can be finicky. you'll understand better as you double coat more pieces. also, for best adhesion, you want to shoot the first coat, bake it until the powder gels or flows out (turns shiny and smooth), then remove, cool, and shoot the second coat. then you'll fully cure both coats. this lets the top coat crosslink into the base coat during cure. if you're having trouble with the second coat sticking when shooting, you can try shooting the part hot ("hot flocking") with the part around 200F. this can be tricky getting an even coat, which is more apparent with some powders than others (e.g. candies).
