I just found out that these tanks are from jpcycle- after market. I think I'm going to bake off then re-seal.

My last tanks thats on my bike now I ordered from J&P cycles but came in a Custom Chrome box. that was funny I thought. but it was raw steel and had nothing coated in them. I even had to do some welding on them cause they forgot to do one side on the bottom. big 7gal tanks.

I had mine down a while back. And i was told to was it out with dish soap and water. Just make sure you get all the soap out. And let the inside air dry..

J&P buys in bulk from CC, so they can offer a better price over others. Also I have never ever seen an after market tank come coated on the inside, they have always been loaded with something like WD-40 to keep them from rusting, but no coatings what so ever.

Correct, but uricad states in his original post he wants to rid them of fumes which leads to me believe the are used and most likely have a sealer inside.

Well that I'm not sure, he needs to ring back in and tell us if they are coated on the inside, of the tanks I've had and seen, I can't recall any that have been coated on the inside, even though it is recommended by all manufacturers, seems that most of the tanks I've seen the owners have been avid riders, and their tanks never set empty etc. I remember on my 71 shovel head, the tanks were on it for years, when i replaced them, not a bit of rust on the inside.. Dang I can't remember we have done something prior to welding on gas tanks before I'll have to ask the F-in-law he knows.

It actually doesn't look like these are coated. Now that the gas has dried up I can see light rust in there. Plus I've been told that the gas was very dirty when it was taken down. Looks like no sealer. Thanks for the input guys.

of the coatings I've used and seen, the coating has been a tan ish color. IF you are seeing rust spots then I would think that the tanks are not coated.
