Default How do you powder coat two different colors with a nice sharp edge

I would like to powder coat this plate. I need a nice sharp line between the two different colors. I do not think wiping the second coat powder off will give me the results I need. Suggestions?

Do you know anyone who could cut you some masking? Possibly a sign shop.

NO, and These are raised letters so I do not believe that the masking would lay down flat.

I think what I will have to do is powder coat the background color and take it to a pin stripper and have him do the lettering. I would really like to be able to do both in powder though.

Shoot the letter color first and bake. Mask the letters using high temp tape then shoot the background color. Bake just long enough to set the background color (so you don't knock it off), cool then remove the tape. Return it to the oven and complete the bake. This is reverse of how the plate was painted but it's easier to use the width of the tape as the letters than trying to mask the background.

I think this would be hard to do around the outer edge and large letters but next to impossible on the small New York letters?

I'm not sure what what you mean. You simply use the tape to form the letters and/or borders at the high points. You can slit the tape using a straight edge and razor. There's another method to duplicate the original painting method but if you think you might have trouble with the tape, the other way will be imposible. You may be better off just shooting the background and have someone paint the letters for you as you say. Good luck.
