I screwed up a fairly large part the other day, and being that it was a large part and had 2 coats, I wasn't looking forward to stripping off the coating.
I decided to try "burning it off". It worked pretty good. You'll need an oven that gets darn hot tho. The powder coat started to bubble off at around 600*, but I'd reccomend you use an oven capable of 700* or you'll be waiting for a while. I found that the powdercoat would start to bubble, and you could wipe big pieces off with a cloth (while it's still hot). Only problem is that it makes a lot of smoke... a LOT of smoke. You'll need to have your oven outside, or a shop with a really good exhaust fan. The part came out looking like it did before coating, but with a little staining from the smoke. A quick 2-minute media blasting was all it took from there. |
