You can use all kinds of media...Make sure you pay attention to your health on this one. Silica can harm you pretty bad. Wear a resperator with ANY media. With sand you need a real blasting hood. If you have a blast cabinet I still use a good quality paint mask. I use Black beauty 30/60 recyled 6 bucks for 50 lbs. I would use virgin 40/60 Black beauty for the cost and finish. AO is a really good media to use if you have the money.

No glass!

Look in a phone book for the NEAREST sand blasting supplier. I bought mine from Northern Tool, but I found a better source cheaper, local, and better quality.

The sandblasting supplier next to you? They might call it a few different names. Coal slag, Black Beauty, Black Diamond.

FigureLLC will become famous soon enough
Default Re: Media Question

this is purely hearsay and as best i remember:

someone on another forum mentioned that coal slag is as bad or worse than sand, because it contains a lot of arsenic. they may have said it still has silica dust, too. and they claimed it will probably be banned in the next few years. ...not sure if any of that is right. i'm guessing the banned part was speculation unless osha's on it.

My CS has 1% or less stated on the bag. You might be correct on it hurting you regardless of the silica factor. ALWAYS wear a mask...Even when you are spraying powder!

I used Alum Oxide from Harbor Freight for almost all my sandblasting. Now I did use Playsand at one time, but I used it outside with a respirator cleaning the Engine block and heads on the 4.9l Caddy motor I did. The sand went all over the yard but again in Fl you did not notice
