Question Extreme chrome on engine parts

New to powder coating. I've read a lot of posts here excellent forum.
Now my question. Should I clear coat extreme chrome on engine parts?
Like tuned port runners, fuel rails, etc...

Yes you should. Extreme chrome needs to have a top coat.

When you get ready to use Extreme Chrome, read the Sticky at the top of the forum. And follow it to the T. It works good and powder comes out looking really good. I use this method all the time.

Read the Sticky. But wasn't clear on parts being exposed to the elements or under the hood. Just use same procedure & no confusion, got it.
Thanks guys.

Any metallics you do should have a clear coat. YOU CAN SKIP THE CLEAR if you want, but it will not hold up as well. An acrylic clear is a great clear for protection. You can use a polyester TGIC clear also that will work excellent.

And as far as heat in the engine compartment, it's not normally hot enough to bother it. But like PC Pro said, make sure you use the clear coat. Just follow the sticky, you will be pleased at the outcome.

someone please correct me if i'm wrong, but i think the clear has less to do with the durability of the coating, and more to do with keeping the aluminum flake (often used as a metallic) from oxidizing and dulling out.

True, but I would consider what you posted a durability issue as well. Spill some fuel on a metallic (chrome) without clear sometime.
