Default High temp Powder coating Problems

Has any one had any luck with the high temp powder coating from Caswell? ......i brought in 23 parts off my new harley...to work .....were they powder coat all the time......and basically the coating came off in sheets...and the stuff that stuck....looked like ****! ....... the only thing i can think of is ..they didnt let it cure in the oven long enough? ......I read someones blog that said even silicone residue from the air compressor can cause it to not stick? ......which is really confusing to me.....since the High temp is supposed to be silicone based? .......Any help or suggestions would really help!!! .... i really dont have $3000 to replace the parts ..if the screw em up again !! Thanks

I think Harley dad had good results with PBTP's muffler high temp. Check with him.

A brand new bike? What parts?
How were the parts prepped and what was the cure schedule?

I wasnt around when they did it .....but im sure they used the same process they always use.....i know they soaked everything in some kind of degreaser ...or other chemical......and i told them that the manufacturers specs ...say to cure it @450 degrees for 20 minutes.....they did go right over the orignal chrome....but that shouldnt have been a problem. right now im thinking that they probably didnt let the metal reach 450.....before they started counting the 20 minutes....if thats not it ..then i have no idea.....the Coating wasnt too thick ...or thin......So? ......the next time they try....everything will be bare metal....So if they let it cure longer....will that keep it from coming off? ........And Yes the parts are pretty new ....off a 2007 roadglide.....i bought it new last fall.....im trying to black out as much as i can.....like the exhaust (mufflers) ..and heat shields ....the crash bar....air cleaner cover ..etc. .....its going to look awesome! ....if i can get the powder coating right! ..... Any tips or suggestions that might help ....would be awesome!!! if i ever get it right... i`ll post some pics ..... Thanks

Other than the exhaust, why are you using high temp. Personally, I would lightly blast the chrome to etch it a bit, even a scotchbrite would be better than nothing, you are putting down a solid color. A candy or translucent would be a different story.

i originally planned on just using the High temp coating on the exhaust...and parts close to the motor ..... but the guy who did it ...put it on everything ..... and im glad he was atleast thinking about that! ....the High temp Gloss Black is only 35% gloss .....and the normal Black that they use here is like 80% gloss.... So ..it would have been a pretty noticeable difference.....i did talk to the paint line supervisor again.....and he said that the metal was at 450 degrees ....before they started counting the 20 minutes needed for curing....he thinks the powder is just no good ........and he also said that the company that is stripping the parts this time ....hate me i guess they are having a hell of a time getting the high temp coating off !!! So does any one know why the paint would adhear to some parts.....and not others? .....i was also wondering.....the first time they were powder coated....the guy completely covered all the parts.....is that neccessary? like the air cleaner cover....only needs to be black on the outside ....no one will ever see the inside? ....i think we are going to try to find some high temp...from a different company ......i wish i would have read the forum here before i ordered.....i looks like a lot of people have been having problems with the High temp powder from caswell ?

If it sticks to some parts and not others... it's not the powder. More than likely problems with the prep.
I've used the Caswell high temp without any problems

I have tried 4 diferent brands of high temp powder and none worked
simple solution , if it's for high temp go with ceramic coating, as simple as that.
don't waste money on high temp powders .

You should be able to find a 35 degree gloss black to get close to the high temp.

there s a part of your question i don t understand .can you explain that part

i have done a few parts with caswell s high temp black no problems .
like harley dad i would use high temp only where needed
were the parts all stipped to metal and prepped before coating
i know that if you try to do double coat with high temp you might have the top coat peeling off
