Question HD Rocker Box covers coating??

I have two rocker box covers off a Harley Davidson that I need to powder coat. They are currently polished. Do I need to blast these before coating or can I just bake these for outgasing and clean with a pre coating/painting cleaner and then spray with powder?

What powder are you applying? Solid color or translucent/candy?

...if you're doing a candy just clean 'em well & shoot it. if it's a solid tone color give 'em a light blast, light buff or light sanding then clean 'em & shoot 'em.

Are these twin cam covers. If they are they should be blasted for better adhesion. When I used to do these if there was clear left on after blasting the powder had a hard time sticking. The best way to do these is individually masked all, four parts and outgassed then hotflocked at 200 to minimize outgassing. One thing to watch out for is when you mask off the gasket surface leave about 1/8 inch from the edge tape free so when the covers are together you will have a superior appearance with no rough edges. Another thing to do is to round off the sharp edges to get proper coverage.

Yes these are twin cam covers. So HD clear coats these babies? What do you mean by hotflocked?

Hot flocked means to shoot the part when it is hot or warm to get good coverage. Normal powder will work fine on these covers. The high temp powders are tempermental and if you screw up your first coat you have to strip and start over again. I have learned the hard way that silcone powders are a one coat deal.

true about reg powder on these , blasting them wll get a better adhesion . with a black texture i would not waste time outgasing them i have done many sets and never had a outgasing problem and i never hotflock either

I thought regular powders wouldn't be a high enough temp for these. I was told they would burn off because of the temperature the rocker boxes get? I am asking you guys because I trust your opinions and input.
