PC aluminum T-6061 Here's what I'm doing:
1. Clean with Acetone 2. spray fine mist of Liquiguard PC 3. let dry 4. Powder coat 5. Bake in oven at 392 degs for approximately 10 minutes per can. I'm getting I think what everyone calls fish eyes. Looks like small craters. this is my first try at PC so I'm looking for HELP. thanks, ben |

Harleydad,
I ride a RoadStar, 98 CI. Thanks for the come back. I haven't blasted the part, didn't think I needed to as it's not cast. I did use a IR temp gun. I use lint free rays to apply the acetone, but should I still use the torch? I have a air filter on the air compressor, but I've read that it should be as close as possible to the spray booth and mines is located at the air compressor. the photo shows the first one on the right and the second one on the left on the test units. Are those new or used parts and what are they?
It sure looks like a contaminated air supply. Put an air nozzle on the line and blow air on white piece of paper or napkin for a minute or two and see if gets wet or oil shows up. |

Harleydad,
The pieces are just scraps from a milling job as i have a CNC machine and do custom intake manifolds for the Yamaha RoadStar and various other parts. I also do custom engravings into aluminum and steel. that's one of the reasons I'm trying the PC. I'll try the air test and see what I get. thanks Ben |

Well, if ya think the air supply is clean and dry, it could be in the prep. Try taking another piece and clean and degrease with simple green or similar and rinse real well. Dry with clean dry air. Blast it and blow it off with clean, dry air. Coat and cure.

Trying another piece now. this time I used a torch after cleaning with Acetone and didn't use any of the LiquiguradPC. time will tell. thanks Ben |

I used liquiguard for the first time on saturday and had the exact same problem on the flat parts. The round parts came out fine. It looks like oil or silicone contamination. I will do more flat parts this week with and without liquiguard closely following the instructions.
