what's your cure schedule? 1/2" aluminum is pretty thick. don't start the clock AT LEAST until you see the powder flow out.

This is not a jab at you Figure. But the cure instructions you see sometimes are a bunch of sh*t i.e. cure at 400 for 20 minutes after flow out. Using this will all but guarantee you'll be undercured. Get an I.R. temp gun and do it right.

Mikmj,
I'm using the super wet Black. This morning I did another PC. Yesterday I cleaned the oven with Easy-off. Preheated oven to 400deg. Sanded the piece down to smooth, cleaned twice with acetone and then applied a mist of LiquiguardPC (from Caswell for aluminum) applied the powder not too thick and not too thin. Placed in oven, waited till piece reached 392 degs. per the can and let set for 10 minutes and removed piece. Had lots of carters and minimual OP. this is starting to drive me rat s**t.

Ben

PS I do use a IR temp gun

Harleydad, I do use an IR temp gun. So your saying cure at a higher temp for a longer period of time?

No, your o.k. I was just stating that at times you see (crappy) cure instructions on some powders like I stated above.

Harleydad,

this morning I tried another piece. I preheated the oven to 400 degrees. I then sanded off all the previous PC and took it down to smooth. I then applied two coats of Acetone, let dry and then applied a misty coat of LiquidguardPC and let dry for 25 minutes. I then applied a medium coat of super wet black and baked for 10 minutes once it reached temp on the piece. OP was still there, but minimal, but had a least 15 carters. Is there something I'm missing? should I use a different cleaner? Frankly I'm stumped. I was at harbor freight the other day and they carry a super heavy duty degreaser, maybe I should try that. I'm assuming the craters are caused by impurities on the aluminum. i even tried preheating the piece first but that didn't work. I did notice that I got a better finish when I didn't use the liquiguardPC, so maybe I stop using that. At $24.95 a gallon I'd expected a little better result, but then I'm really not sure exactly what the liquiguard is supposed to do. guess I'll just have to keep trying different things until I hit the right combination .

I would ditch the liquigard, i have never personally used it but have heard of others having issues with it. Now how do clean with the acetone. Do you spray it on and let it run off or do you wipe it down with a towel or rag? If you are wiping it down with a towel/rag you should follow that by running a torch across it to burn off the fuzzies and lint that any towel/rag will leave behind. It is amazing what you don't see until after you coat the part. You also might try a different color say a standard black or red or blue and step away from the mirror colors. They seem to be a bit more tempermental to apply and make look right.

46ford,
I'm beginning to believe the Liquiguard isn't any good. I generally wipe down using lint free rags with acetone, but hadn't been using the torch. will try that next time. don't have any other colors in stock, but will order some roday. thanks for the info.
