it depends on the type of gun you use. I use a gun that makes the application of subsequent coats quite painless.

I've got the caswell 50kv gun. Their pro gun. But to be honest just open it up and started spraying. I have been coating everything on the 30kv setting. I'll take some pics of the valve cover I just done in the extreme chrome and clear. I did a brake lever in lollipop blue but too ashamed to take pics of it.
