I have just started in powder coating, just finished my oven two weeks ago. I have done a couple dozen parts, brackets, bike frame, fender wells, all been super wet black. No problems at all , they came out perfect. Now here is my question. I have a atv frame and chevy motor block that I want to do in lollipop blue. I have ordered the extreme chrome as a base. What is the procedure for doing the two coat system. I know I need to outgas the block. Do I spray the chrome on while the block is hot, and at what point do I put on the blue. I also have ordered a clear, Do I put that over the blue. I would appreciate all help. Thanks Rick

If I were you I'd spray the block wet black first, then the chrome then the candy. candies are tinted clears so you don't need to apply a clear over the candy. spraying a glossy dark color under the chrome powder will help with outgassing & appearance of the chrome coat. if you do do it this way cure the black about 3/4 cure, let cool & spray the chrome & fully cure, let it cool down & apply the candy & fully cure. your masking will most likely peel so when the it's cool you can re-apply the masking.

Do I need to sand the black before the chrome goes on? I would think with black, chrome, then lollipop , that would fill alot of the casting in the block and make it quite a bit smoother. Thanks Rick

Well I put the super black first cured about 70% and let cool then done the extreme chrome, and then let cool to room temp. Getting ready to apply the clear on a valve cover to try the clear out. I had a brake lever off a atv that I'm trying the lollipop blue on. I didn't seem to have a problem with the chrome covering the part BUT the lollipop blue didn't seem to want to stay on. It was like the powder was trying to blow off. I know that I wasn't too close to the part. It was blowing off near the hanger where I had my ground clip. Is this normal? I think I may have put on too much powder trying to get it to stick because so far the part looks more like a purple than a blue.
