Angry craters, craters and more more !

Ok iIve about had it with this PC. I've done everything:
1. sanded the T-6061 Aluminum
2. Let it soak in degreaser (purple Power)
3. Washed off and air dried
4. wiped down with Acetone
5. Used torch over piece.
6. wiped again with Acetone
7. torch
8. PC
9. preheated oven to 400 deg.
10. Baked at 392 deg +- 25 degs for 10 minutes

AND STILL I HAVE CRATERS

Someone tell me what more I can do?

Ben

Try this:
1. Wash the part really well with hot water and just leave it sit to air dry on it's own.
2. Media blast with 80 grit Aluminum Oxide or plain old sand, just don't use glass bead. Handle the parts with Nitrile powder free gloves from here on out.
3. Brush the parts off with a bristle brush (like you would use in the shower)
4. coat and cure.
This will eliminate the degreaser, the acetone, the rags, the torch. Also your air supply up until the point when you coat it.

Post the results

harleydad,
why do I need to media blast as I have sanded this piece down with three different grits of paper? I never touch the area that I'm powder coating and if I have to touch I do use the nitrile gloves. Where can I find this 80 grit Aluminum Oxide?

Thnks for your help.

Ben

O.K. sand it in place of blasting. See how the above works out, I'm really beginning to think it's your air supply.

Harleydad,

OK, so what should I do to eliminate the air supply problem. I have a Kobalt air filter for getting the water. Is there another type filter I should be getting

Have you tried the latest test? What type of compressor do you have and have you drained the tank lately? TP Tools has a decent diagram on how to run air lines. It's pages 44 and 45 of the latest catalog.
Or here: http://www.tptools.com/SearchResult....rchTitleDescr=

Ben do you use any type of silicone spray in your shop or anywhere adjacent to where you are doing the powder coating? That stuff will hang in the air and even a tiny trace amount will screw up the best coating job ever. Just a thought.
