Hi guys. I'm doing some parts in Candy Blue and some of the parts im doing are turning out a totally different color. I shot 3 pulleys at the same time today. 1 turned out the normal color, 1 was the weird color, and 1 was a mix of the 2.
Is there any way that moisture could be causing this? So far I tried changing the cure temps up and down - didn't work I tried applying it thiner and thicker - didn't work You can see the alternator fan has the right color in the center, but almost everywhere else is the odd color. I'll try to post some pix Thanks, Frank Last edited by LS1Nova; 04-25-2008 at 05:08 PM. |

I can think of 3 quick reazons
shooting the candy at different part temps ( try to stay at 150 with a hooby gun) uncured chrome base or the gun still had some chrome left in it when you shoot those parts and those where the first ones you coat of the batch. BTW,that intake manifold look great ! Last edited by jtagger19; 04-25-2008 at 05:26 PM. |

Thank you, but let me clarify a little. This is a single stage color It's just called Hot Candy Blue. I'm not using any base under it, just bare aluminum. I've just done 3 or 4 other test pieces and they are now consitantly all the odd color.
Thanks, Frank |

Different base materials and surface conditions reflect light through the powder differently. Also, thickness is important for matching colors. When using candy colors it's better to shoot all parts with a common base color. To get a good color match, shoot all parts at the same time or batch. You're more likely to get a common thickness. It takes practice but after a while you'll be able to shoot parts months apart and get the same color.

I'm afraid it is a candy color (transparent). Here's the specs for the powder. HOT CANDY BLUE POLYESTER TGIC TRANSPARENT WEATHER RESISTANT POWDER COATING FOR INTERIOR OR EXTERIOR APPLICATIONS * CURE SCHEDULE 400F/10MIN AT PMT * 90% GLOSS LEVEL WITH 60 DEGREE METER * SPECIFIC GRAVITY 1.2-1.8 * RECOMMENDED MIL THICKNESS - 1.2 - 1.8 MILS * THEORETICAL COVERAGE - 51.5 SQ. FT. |

Doh! I'm felling pretty dumb now. I was thinking it was a regular blue because of the section I ordered it out of on the website. Sorry.
Thanks for the great advise guys! I need some more seat time to more consitant results. I guess I'll have to keep practicing. |
