Well for those who have followed some of my posts about my problems with carters, I finally decided to try a different color other than the Super Wet black.
The piece came out without a single carter, however I noticed that I have some very thin spots in which I can actually see the aluminum underneath, including some of the sanding lines. I would assume that I need to put a little thicker coat on when using the top coat colors. Now this was done over T6061 aluminum and I didn't spend alot of time getting the piece polished up. this is the first time I have used the top coat powder. Since this came out with ZERO carters and I didn't do anything different in the prepping stage, am I to assume that the Super Wet black I got is bad? If so should I call Caswell and inform them? Are you new to Powder coating? Just trying to get a grasp on your knowledge
I would call casewell about your bad batch of powder.. Candy colors like the lollypop require even coats to make look right.. Looks like you didnt have it heavy enough on that part.. Make sure you have a good ground when doing the parts.. Wire directly on the part works best..

Yes I'm new to powder coating and have been trying for the past month to get the carters out. Tried everything, different prep methods, degreasers, acetone, water test ,soap and water, etc. Finally came doen to adding a La-Man extractor/dryer which remove contaminates down to 5 microns, oil, dirt, water. Tried again today with all the new items including new air hose from filter to gun and still got carters. I had ordered lolipop blue and red the other week, so decided that it had to be the powder and then the exact same prep method and no carters with the lolipop blue. sent an email to Caswell and got a reply saying it couldn't be the powder as they only purchase the best quality. I just finished sending Mr. Caswell a reply, again explaining all that I had done and asking him to please explain to me why ![]() I realized that I didn't have enough powder on the piece, so I'm in the process of re-doing it right now and laid sown a little heavier coat. We will see what we will see. Thanks for the come back. Ben Last edited by benherr; 05-21-2008 at 08:47 PM. Reason: added text |

here's my second attempt at t5he lollipop blue. Looks like I got the thickness good, but you can see a small section in the lower left that is kind of raised up or rough. Not sure what caused that. Any ideas.

benherr, I have been following this thread as I am a noob at this too and hope to learn from it. But I had to ask, what is a "carter"? Do you mean "crater"? Also, what is that piece you are powder coating?
