I was told not to use alluminum oxide on rims when using high gloss black, would scotch briting polished alluminum rims be ok when using mirror black?

Are you sure you're not confusing the aluminum oxide with glass beads? Some say glass bead will embed itself in the aluminum, although I've not had a problem. What grit aluminum oxide?
I don't see why the aluminum oxide would be a problem, if you're concerned about it the scothbrite would also be o.k.
Is the whole rim being done in mirror black or are you leaving some portion of it polished?
just the front of the rim, but if i can just scotch brite it, i would rather do that. so it would turn ok ok if i did?
