i have a compressor where the motor failed. anyone have a good source for compressor motors? looking for something along the lines of 30amp (7-7.5hp) at 1725rpm. shaft size and frame aren't that important.
best i've been able to find at a reasonable price is 5hp (22amp) @ 3450rpm. i did find a 'farm duty' at an incredible price, but the thing is HUGE....150 lbs. would probably tip my upright compressor over. and i'm not sure if 'farm duty' can handle 100% duty either. thanks, Dave |

150 lbs sounds about right for a 7.5 HP, that's about what my Baldor weighs. I bought it on Ebay for $550. If that's something you are interested in let me know and I'll find the seller, they specialize in motors. It was a 1750 RPM, that with my low RPM Eaton pump makes for a nice and quiet compressor, I can talk on the phone next to it.

Brintiff, how many amps is your motor? the 5hp 22amp one i have weighs 50lbs, so i'm surprised that a 7.5hp is THAT much heavier!
if my pump ever fails, the plan was to get an eaton (32cfm) but the 22amp motor probably couldn't handle it, even at reduced rpm...which is why if i have to buy a new motor, a bigger one would be nice. LLC, i'm not too keen on used, unless the price is awesome, so i guess it won't hurt to look. |

I have to look at the tag to be sure, it's 33 amps I believe, most REAL 7.5's are going to draw about the same as long as the voltage is the same and both sing phase. I had to weld some extra brackets to the plate on my compressor to fit the new pump head and motor, it was well worth the effort, for $1200 or so I have the output of compressors running in the 2k range, I reused my old tank.
My Baldor was brand new, heres a link to the seller and the exact motor I purchased, he has a few of them. NEW BALDOR 7.5HP ELECTRIC MOTOR AIR COMPRESSOR L1510T - eBay (item 190256756754 end time Nov-02-08 10:36:35 PST) Last edited by Brintiff; 10-17-2008 at 10:26 PM. |

my 5 hp is 22 amp, 4.4 amp/hp.
the baldor is 7.5 hp @ 33 amp, 4.4 amp/hp. so it's at least a 'real' 5 hp that's a pretty good price for a baldor, i'll have to check it out closer and compare to the other 7.5 hp i have found for sale. thanks for the link. |
