i haven't done a ton of rims, so i really don't know myself... i think most alloy rims will have a clear. to tell you can put a drop of stripper on them and see what happens. or, since you'll want to outgas them anyway, stick them in the oven at 450-500 before blasting. the clear will turn brown. it should blast off really easy, and now you can see more clearly that you've gotten it all.
Clean a spot on the rim to get the dirt and stuff off. Put a little polishing compound (Mothers) on clean rag and rub the spot you just cleaned. If the rag is black = bare aluminum. If the rag is still clean = it has a clear of some type.
Both of those tips are very good... If you stick the rim in the oven at a high temp the clear coat actually turns brownish? And then you just blast them....Thats a really good idea, that has to make it alot better then trying to use aircraft stripper to get the clear coat off!! Especially in all those tight crevises...... Using the rag and polish is genius!! Thats a good way to see if you even wanna mess around with a set of rims.....I'll have to try both of these tricks.... Thank you...
