Question Powder coating wood or plastic?

I was reading where it is possible to powder coat wood or plastic. How would you do this? Since wood/plastic do not conduct electricity very well, how would you ground them to make the powder coating stick to them?

The Hard part is not how to get the powder on the product,.... but how to cure it without melting it. Some plastics can take the heat. Some cannot. Wood may be able to handle it also..... It surely depends on factors that are not typical for metal items though.

CC has a gun called the Hypersmooth, that will get the powder on the part,.... it even works on glass (as does just about any powder gun). Go check out the video they have on their site. It's interesting at least.

I tried finding some info online after a customer was asking about powdercoating their wooden business sign. I know that MDF board is the wood of choice with powdercoating, but not sure about cure times.

I'm pretty sure that there are specific powders to use (at least for coating wood). They cure at much lower temperatures (250* maybe). I've never tried it, only read a little bit about it.

This is true and they usually cure using I.R.

Not only is H_daddy correct about the special cure temp powders, but some even cure in seconds..... No need to heat the stuff continuously for any length of time..... I think this stuf cures under UV lights.

The first place I saw the quick cure, UV/IR cure powder info, was on the Dupont website. I don't think it will be available in small quantities for the custom coater, but maybe some of us could get together and buy some as a group (count me out unless someone is buying and then doing re-sell with support).
