Default Powder collection in gun barrel

Hey guys. I have been using the cheaper hobby gun from Caswell and it works great. I wanted a bit more power (AHR AHR AHR) LOL

I now have their 50k model and it works well but I notice I get a lot of powder collecting in the barrel. Never had this much in the old gun.
I notice it when I finish and clean the gun. I get allot of unused powder from the barrel. I'm worried if I do allot of powder coating at once it may start to come out in large amounts at any time.
Do I just need more air or is there something else you have ran into that would cause this.

    Thanks

is this happening with all powders, or are you using different powder than you used to? some colors shoot better than others. super high gloss clear shoots great with very little air, and flat black tends to be kind of "sticky" and needs more air. so you could try the air.

also shake your powder vigorously before shooting to try to break up any clumps. better yet, use a sifter.

try the gun mods posted on this forum. the one where you add a few extra holes to the air inlet in the cup was the single biggest improvement for us.

when shooting, trigger the gun on before it's aimed at your part, just like with wet paint.

    hope this helps!

I notice it most with solar black. I think I may turn the air up a bit. I do shake it up before each use. I think the only thing I changed was the amount of air pressure. Trying not to waist as much.

    Thanks

that's the sticky one! we use a nordson sure coat now with a gravity cup attachment, and we bored the cup feed out slightly for that powder. it's the only one we've had to do that with. still have to shake the bejezus out of it.

oh, something else i took for granted... make sure your air is clean and dry. cleaner and drier the better. we use a coalescing filter to remove any dirt, oil, and liquid water, then a dessicant dryer to suck out any water vapor. make sure you drain your air tank every morning if you don't have an auto drain. if you don't have an auto drain, pick one up from harbor freight for like $13, i think. i installed one on our smaller craftsman compressor, and it worked great. it's pilot operated so it just blows off when the compressor starts and stops.

I turned up the pressure. No more collection in the barrel but a lot more waist. I think I need to find a happy medium.

    Thanks
