    Default different brands of powder

Has anyone had better luck with one brand of powder over another. I was looking at caswell powder, columbia coatings powder, and eastwood powder and noticed eastwood stuff is really expensive compared to the other two.

All I ever used to shoot was Tiger Drylac, DuPont, and Rohm and Haas. Most of those purchases were larger quantities. Most of the by the pound places buy in larger quantities from the big boys and sell of in small quantities. There's a good chance you may get the same powder from different re-sellers. That's where it comes down to customer service and how the powder is stored.
For smaller quantities (or large) I've had great success with Powder Buy the Pound. No trouble at all with any of the powders and the customer service is top notch.

I have used powders from Columbia Coatings, Powder By The Pound, And NIC and they all are great. To date I have never had a problem with any of the above companies powder and would not hesitate to use any of them. My personal favorite is NIC as they have a VERY large selection of powder and it always seems very "fresh" but they do require a 2 pound minimum which really is not a problem as I like to order extra powder for future jobs. You cant really go wrong with any of the above.

Like H-daddy,... I like the first list of powders he listed. Those are among the powders sold by PBTP, and there's one more I like too. DUPONT. Tiger has to have the smoothest powders I've used, but I must admit I have a local warehouse to pick up from, and they have a wonderful climate controlled warehouse. I knwo when I order from them I'll be getting some pretty fresh powders typically. I'll say the same about PBTP's customer service. It's excellent. They ship quickly and combine powder orders if you catch them in the same day with an additional need. Once in a while they'll sell a large Quantity real cheap on ebay too.... I buy that stuff to use as a primer/base coat for one coat, opaque colors. NIC is coming around on the shipping costs, but they still have a 2 pound minimum per powder when ordering.... Small bummer. Most times I'll order 2 pounds from almost anybody, so no big deal to me. Tiger Drylac is the same on minimum amounts.

You can buy from the big boys, like H-daddy said,.... But you will have to buy as much as 50 pounds to get them to deal with you, so that keeps me from being able to go to Dupont and get powder, or even Sherwion Williams. I can get both locally if I want to take the 55 pound beating. If you ive near Eastwood, they cost a bit but have some stuff in their storefront location. If I lived near them I'd buy from them, as they sell the "Big Boys" powders too.

I've ordered from almost every place (sizable enough to have a good webiste) and have had excellent customer service from all of them, so price does play a large role in my purchases now. Been coating and buying for over a year now,... feel almost like a seasoned pro, except for the volume of work.

I recently purchased some powders from occ, and I have to admit, I was pretty shocked with how well it looked and held up on some of my projects.

I used their copper vein and super high gloss, and it came out dazzling. To even further test the integrity of the paint after curing, I banged some of my parts (wrenches) together, threw them on the ground, chemicals, etc... with some friends, and noticed the stuff was ALMOST (key word) impossible to chip or strip off. Even after scrapping it against a brick wall, it still held up fairly well.

Point being, the stuff holds up great under practically unseen conditions and passed my friends quality tests haha.

only place ive ever hear negative things about is columbia coats. That isn't first hand experience, and not everyone has bad things to say. I've heard mostly good things. Every company has probably had bad experiences

i've only ordered from powderbuythepound and i have no complaints. Other than shipping seemed pretty high ($65), but i did order like 40 pounds of powder
